New!!!! Golf Scramble 2017
The 22nd annual golf event will be quite different than past years. Plans have been made to expand golf play from one to two days (Oct. 7 and 8). Times of play will be more convenient. On course games will be enhanced with prizes to be even more attractive. More importantly, this event has always been “MORE THAN GOLF.” Just as the need for the services that the NSHCF provides are increasing we will be able to maximize the value of the sponsorship dollars. Nearly 100% of sponsor’s contributions will be available as direct grant funds to benefit our Cook County residents. This is really what it is all about. The North Shore Health Care Foundation is very pleased to announce receipt of an important contribution. Paul and Carol Schaap have graciously donated $10,000 with the purpose to substantially underwrite the operational expenses of the expanded 2017 NSHCF golf outing. Traditionally held during peak leaf looking season, our golf event has been the primary fund raising event for the Foundation since its inception over twenty years ago, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant dollars for our community. The effects of the Schaap’s generous donation are immediate and far reaching. So, better golf, more fun, greatly improved service to our community; and as if that were not enough we were also able to work more closely with Superior National Golf Course to both our benefits. Thank you to Superior National for helping to underwrite our event over the years through reduced pricing for use of the course. This year Superior National will be made financially whole for the event and we will have needed flexibility for scheduling use of the course. If this were carried forward, our vision of this golf outing becoming a destination golf event with far reaching positive effects on our citizens could be realized.
It was another picture perfect day for the 21st annual North Shore Health Care Foundation Golf Scramble. Twenty-five teams came out to compete in 18 holes on the newly renovated River and Mountain courses. This year we had 3 different contests. Lowest score, Skins, and a county wide fire department tournament within the scramble. We had a tie for first place between Team Gresczyk (Peter and Carline Gresczyk, Gina Gervais, and Dinky Pederson) and Team Fenwick #3 (Casey Van Krevelin, Todd Tosel, Joey Boyce), with team Fenwick #3 coming out on top at the tie breaker.
For the first time in our scramble history we had a hole-in-one winner! Barry Pederson made the once in a lifetime shot to take home the $10,000 winning prize! Our top prizes are insured and paid through Hole in One International. With the hole-in-one shot Barry’s team also had the lowest score on a hole and won the Skins game. Something new this year was a tournament within the scramble between the fire departments in Cook County. This was put on by Michael Valentini and sponsored by Emergency Apparatus Maintenance. This year’s winners were the Gunflint Fire Department and they won $500 towards their annual equipment inspection.
We changed things up this year and finished off our scramble with the 19th Hole Reception at Superior National. Golfers enjoyed catered appetizers by Alyce’s while watching the end of the Ryder Cup on two giant TV’s under the big tent. It was a wonderful day and the scramble was able to bring in over $19,000 in sponsorships that will go into the North Shore Health Care Foundations Grant Fund.
Thank you to all our fabulous volunteers, NSCHF board, golf scramble planning committee, golfers, and our major sponsors, Lakewalk Surgery Center, BOLDT, Agstar Financial, Superior National Golf Course, and all our sponsors.
We wouldn’t be able to have a successful event without all of you! Thanks to all who helped with the 2016 Golf Scramble.
