North Shore Health Care Foundation
T
he North Shore Health Care Foundation is an independent non-profit organization benefitting health care in Cook County Minnesota. Grants are awarded quarterly to qualified health care providers for medical equipment and training. The Health Care Golf Tournament at Superior National in Lutsen is the first Sunday in October each year, and the proceeds are dedicated to grants. The June BBQ and Fall brunch support the endowment fund which is managed by the Minnesota Community Foundation. An educational conference or expo is offered free to the community each year. We also provide Health Care Directive forms, and a newsletter, "The North Shore Health Care News."  Since 2007 an active program to develop enhanced end of life care has been a focus of the foundation, and exciting new partnerships have been formed with community members and other organizations. Local donors have provided funds for cancer patients to receive stipends for travel expenses. By becoming a member or making a gift or a bequest, you can help all of this work continue.

As you look through this website you will get a feeling for the many different ways that NSHCF connects with people.  A wonderful warm heart comes from both giving support to the foundation and from our supporting so many community efforts to improve health care. Members, golfers, sponsors, volunteers, BBQ and brunch eaters, home tourers, hair cut clients and donors all get the experience of helping grow this organization.  It is too bad that each of you cannot personally give a grant or visit with someone who has received the benefit of our work.  Often the recipients do not even know where the support has come from, but there is another sort of ‘secret Santa’ pleasure in that.  Our community is a better place because there are long term ripple effects from each and every grant we give, from better trained staff to properly used infant car seats to equipment for emergency services.  The next time we have a major crisis that stresses emergency workers, there will be massage therapist volunteers on hand to ease their pain.
